NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State closed the third quarter on a 17-2 run en route to a 65-57 win Sunday afternoon at Redbird Arena in Normal.
The Panther opened the game with a 7-2 run and led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and 30-25 at the half.
UNI led 36-31 with 5:29 to play in the third before the Redbirds went on their run.
The Panthers closed the game on a 9-2 run, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit and the Redbirds earned the eight-point win.
Bre Gunnels notched a team-high 15 points, Karli Rucker scored 12 and Cynthia Wolf added 11. Rucker led UNI with eight rebounds and five assists.
Lexi Wallen scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Redbirds.
UNI falls to 11-7 on the season and 3-4 in the Valley.

The Panthers return home to host Loyola Friday and Valparaiso Sunday in the first of four consecutive home games. The Panthers are undefeated at home with a 6-0 record so far this season.
