Altercation connected to “targeted” shooting of two people in Cedar Rapids, leaving a teen dead

CEDAR RAPIDS – Police say an altercation led to a “targeted” shooting of two people in Cedar Rapids, leaving one young man dead.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department responded to the 3200 block of Agin Court NE at 11:48 p.m. Friday, January 24 after receiving multiple reports of an altercation and shots fired. Police officers arrived on scene and found two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds.

Police officers, firefighters, and Area Ambulance Service personnel administered emergency medical care and transported both patients to a local hospital.
One of the victims, identified as Andrew Dontae Gaston, age 18, died at 12:39 a.m. Saturday morning at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital.

The other victim, a 16-year old male, sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the lower extremity.

There is an active, ongoing investigation, police disclosed, and based on the preliminary information, this appears to be a targeted incident.
