Successful Senior Day for UNI Swimming and Diving

CEDAR FALLS – It was Senior Day from Glen Henry Pool for the UNI swim and dive team. Seniors Kylie Engstrom, Ashleigh Houlette, Jordan McCullough, Moriah Ross, Katie Taylor, and Jenna Willer were honored before the meet. The Panthers defeated the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 180.5-113.5.

The seniors lead the way for the Panthers, with each of them earning a first or second place finish. Katie Taylor and Moriah Ross both had four wins a piece, while Kylie Engstrom had two and Ashleigh Houlette had one. Jordan McCullough had two second place finishes on the afternoon.

Taylor’s wins were in the 100 Back (55.34), the 200 Back (2:00.11). Ross had wins in the 100 Breast (1:04.86) and the 200 Breast (2:21.80). They were both on the first place 200 Medley (1:46.91) and 200 Free Relay (1:39.07) as well.

Engstrom had two wins in the 200 Free (1:56.62), and the 500 Free (5:12.47). Ashleigh Houlette was on the winning 200 Free Relay (1:39.07) team. McCullough’s two second place finishes came in the 200 Free (1:57.02), and the 200 Back (2:08.43).

Other first place winners for the Panthers include Sarah Walpole, Casey Summers, Payton Hall, and Taylor Hogan. Walpole won the 1000 Free (10:44.42), Summers won the 50 Free (23.53), and Hall won the 200 IM (2:13.27). Hogan took first in the 3m Diving (263.77), and second in the 1m Diving (240.15).

UNI was 4-1 at home this season, with the lone loss coming against Nebraska. Their overall record is currently 12-3, all three losses were against Big Ten opponents.

The Panthers will next travel to Ames to take on Iowa State and North Texas on January 31st and February 1st. The MVC Championships will be February 19th – 22nd in Columbia, Missouri.
