Public invited to view the draft plan at a public workshop

Southbridge Mall

MASON CITY – The Mason City Planning and Zoning Commission will unveil the draft Willow Creek Master Plan 2020 at a public workshop on Thursday, January 30 between 5:30PM and 8:30PM, in the Yellow Room of the new Parks and Recreation Office, located in the west wing of Southbridge Mall. The public is invited to learn about the draft plan, review the draft’s recommendations, and provide comments to guide the completion and adoption of the Plan.

Steven J. Van Steenhuyse

Steven Van Steenhuyse, Mason City’s Director of Development Services, described the workshop format: “Anyone wishing to learn about the Willow Creek Plan should come down to the brand new Parks and Recreation office in Southbridge Mall, anytime between 5:30 and 8:30. Citizens can view several displays that illustrate the draft plan and describe its recommendations. Participants can provide comments and suggestions, and City staff and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission will be there to answer questions.”

Although members of the public can drop in anytime during the workshop hours, there will be a formal presentation on the draft plan at 6:30PM. Those who cannot attend the workshop can view the draft plan on the City’s website at www.masoncity.net. Written comments are welcome and can be emailed to the Development Services Department, svansteenhuyse@masoncity.net.

The Willow Creek Master Plan 2020 is an update to the 2004 Willow Creek Plan. The plan is part of the City’s “Iowa Great Places” initiative, a state program that recognizes unique historic and cultural neighborhoods in Iowa’s communities. The Willow Creek Corridor is an important element of Downtown Mason City that has great potential. The Willow Creek Master Plan 2020 recognizes the importance of the corridor and provides a template for improvements that continue to make downtown Mason City a unique and exciting destination.
