Clear Lake business damaged by fire Monday morning

CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake business was damaged by fire Monday morning.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire Monday, January 13, 2020 at approximately 0538 hrs. The Clear Lake Police Department and Clear Lake Fire Department responded to 609 North 40th Street in Clear Lake. Upon arrival smoke was showing from the eaves of a 40 foot by 100 foot wood framed steel clad shop building. The business is identified as Lake Towing and is owned by Todd Hanson of Clear Lake. The fire was discovered by the business owner when he returned to the shop after plowing snow earlier in the morning. He had attempted to extinguish the fire with portable fire extinguishers prior to notifying the fire department. A responding police officer also attempted to control the fire with his extinguisher. Clear Lake firefighters responded with 1 aerial quint, 1 engine, and 1 ambulance with 12 firefighters. Ventura Fire Department also responded with 1 engine and 5 firefighters. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic space with some damage to rafters and steel siding and roof. Damage is estimated at $25,000.

The property is insured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There were no injuries.

All fire companies returned to quarters at 7:32 AM.
