ST. LOUIS – Kristina Cavey scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the first time in her career and lead UNI to a 71-63 road win over Iowa State in Ames, Sunday. For her efforts, she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season.
The graduate transfer was the first Panther this season to pick up a double-double. She was 4-8 from the field, 2-5 from the three-point line and 10-10 from the free-throw line in the win. She tallied three assists and two steals.
Cavey was also named the College Sports Madness MVC Player of the Week.
The win over Iowa State was the first road win over the Cyclones in program history, the first sweep of Iowa and Iowa State since the 1974-75 season. The Panthers have three wins over power-five opponents in one season for the first time in program history.
The win over Iowa State concluded UNI’s non-conference slate. The Panthers return to action on Jan. 3 against Drake on the road in Des Moines.
