Wrong-way driver in Marshall county claims life of woman and her dog

MARSHALL COUNTY, IOWA – Authorities were alerted via multiple 911 calls Saturday evening about a wrong way driving on Highway 30 in Marshall county which resulted in a fatal collision.

The crash originated as wrong way driver reported Saturday evening, December 21 at approximately 8:00 PM, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 30 resulting in a two-vehicle collision in the 181 mile of Hwy 30 (approximately 2 miles east of the Hwy 330 intersection) near the crest of a hill. The driver of the westbound vehicle was transported to Unity Point Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the wrong-way eastbound vehicle, 58-year-old Kim Pfantz of State Center, Iowa and her pet dog were declared deceased on scene.

Marshalltown Police, Haverhill, Laurel, State Center & Marshalltown Fire Departments/EMS, Unity Point Ambulance and the Marshall County Medical Examiner responded as well to this unfortunate incident.

The Iowa State Patrol was requested to conduct the technical accident investigation. ISP Post 1 Headquarters in Des Moines may be contacted for additional information.
