Police investigating two suspicious deaths in Webster City

WEBSTER CITY – Police are investigating two suspicious deaths in Webster City.

On November 10, 2019 at 8:13 AM, Webster City police officers and paramedics responded to 721 Des Moines Street for a report of two people believed to be deceased. The deceased individuals have been identified as 28-year-old Mariangelys Ortiz and 3-month-old Abimelec Ortiz Figueroa. Both individuals were staying at an apartment inside 721 Des Moines Street.

Autopsies were performed on both individuals by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa. The findings of those autopsies will be released once the official causes of death have been determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Webster City police said today, “this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public. This is an active investigation, and as such more information will be released when it becomes available. The investigators are asking the public to refrain from publishing false information on social media. This has been a traumatic incident for the family as well as the first responders who were on scene. Any information not released through official channels should not be considered accurate.”

The Webster City Police Department is being assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
