MASON CITY, Iowa – Mason City High School students will be gearing up for their futures on Thursday, November 14, during an all school career and college exploration day. Career and college exploration is an essential component in helping our students prepare for life after high school. The activities on November 14 will help the students to identify:

  • ●  future course/class selections
  • ●  pathways their education can take
  • ●  any future work-based learning activities they would like to participate in

Our commitment is to help grow our students’ career exploration each year. We have invited over 50 area businesses and organizations to be involved in this exploration day, because we as a community, are all responsible for helping our students explore the vast array of career opportunities that exist.

Here is an overview of the activities that each grade will be participating in on November 14: 9th Grade – Students will tour two area businesses and NIACC.

10th Grade – Students will be taking the Pre-ACT in the morning and will attend career pathway sessions based on interest profiles in the afternoon.

11th Grade – Students will be taking the National Career Readiness Certificate test in the morning and will attend a career expo with over 20 area businesses in the afternoon.

12th Grade – Students will attend four (4) sessions: Life-Long Skills – Keynote Speaker; “A Game” – Attendance and Appearance; Financial Literacy; and Student/College/Career Panel.
