GRUNDY CENTER – State authorities are investigating after a man died in the Grundy county jail.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 4:38 p.m. Grundy County sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop with Ricky Sigler on A Avenue, east of County Road T-37 (M Avenue) in the City of Grundy Center. During the traffic stop, Ricky Sigler, age 39, Grundy Center, was arrested on a charge of OWI 3rd Offense, a Class ‘D’ Felony; and Possession of Controlled Substance; Methamphetamine, 3rd Offense; a Class ‘D’ Felony.

Sigler was booked into the Grundy County Jail and suffered a medical issue. Sigler was transported by the Grundy Center Ambulance to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. While at the hospital, Sigler became unresponsive. Medical staff performed lifesaving procedures but Sigler later died. Sigler was transported to the Office of State Medical Examiner in Ankeny where an autopsy will be performed.

As standard procedure with ‘in-custody related deaths’, the Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
