FORT DODGE – A staff member was assaulted by an inmate at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility in Fort Dodge, IA at approximately 4:00 PM yesterday afternoon.
The staff member that was assaulted, a correctional officer, was giving directives to an inmate when the inmate began to aggressively approach the officer. The inmate then pushed the officer backwards, and the officer began deploying oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) to subdue the inmate. At that time, the inmate then began attempting to use closed-fists strikes on the officer, and the two fell to the ground. The officer, with the assistance of another correctional officer in the immediate area, attempted to subdue the aggressive inmate until additional security staff arrived to assist in restraining the aggressive inmate.
The staff member that was assaulted was seen by institutional medical personnel, and taken to the local hospital via state vehicle for evaluation. The officer was found to have several bruises and experienced soreness, but no major injuries. The inmate that assaulted the officer was taken by ambulance to the local hospital to be evaluated, and returned to the facility that evening, having been found to not be suffering from any major injuries.
This incident remains under investigation.

If youre already in the cage you kind of lost the fight already. Takes a real genius to do dumb shit in jail and get extra time added on. clearly this individual is not very intelligent and has no problem becoming violent towards other people if he is dumb enough and willing to assault a guard. not saying the possibility of the guard deserving it through antagonistic behavior doesnt exist…. just that the prison population seems to consist of the kids in highschool who went to bd class. they where all spastic morons and useless bags of shit.
