Minnesota residents arrested on numerous drug charges after returning to abandoned car in Emmet county

RURAL EMMET COUNTY, IOWA – Two Ceylon, Minnesota people were arrested as the result of an investigation by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office recently.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the sheriff’s office received a report July 10th at 3:32pm of a vehicle left abandoned in the yard at 2250 450th Avenue in Emmet County. Upon initial investigation a Cadillac sedan was located at this location and attempts were made to locate and identify the owner of the vehicle. Upon returning to the scene once again to gather additional information deputies observed two occupants in another vehicle in the yard near this abandoned vehicle. The two occupants, were identified as Jessica Verschelde age (36) and Darwin Sell age (40) both of Ceylon, Minnesota. During the investigation at the scene it was determined that Sell and Verschelde were there to retrieve this vehicle that had been abandoned at this address. During the investigation it was determined that both were wanted on outstanding arrest warrants and were taken into custody. During the arrest of both Sell and Verschelde, items believed to be controlled substances and paraphernalia were discovered.

As a result of the incident both were transported to the Emmet County Jail where Verschelde was charged with: Possession of Methamphetamine (2nd offense), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Psilocybin Mushrooms), Possession of Prescription Drugs 2nd Offense, Possession of Marijuana 2nd (two counts) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and No Driver’s License.

Sell was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Psilocybin Mushrooms), Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana (3rd Offense), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Interference with Official Acts of a Peace Officer and Providing False Information to a Peace Officer.

Following an appearance before Emmet County Magistrate David Forsyth, Verschelde was released from custody on a $5,000.00 unsecured bond, Sell remains in custody in the Emmet County Jail on a bond of $6,500.00 or surety.
