Jury finds man guilty of sex abuse of a child in Chickasaw county

NEW HAMPTON – A Chickasaw county jury on Tuesday found a man guilty of sex abuse of a child.

On April 25, 2017 the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s office received a report from an investigator from the Iowa Department of Human Services of a sexual abuse allegation. The reported sexual abuse occurred between 2015 and 2016 against a 12-13 year old female while the defendant lived in rural Chickasaw County.

An investigation conducted by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office led to charges being filed against David Edward Williams for Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree, Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree and Incest.

Williams stood trial on this matter beginning April 25, 2019 in Chickasaw County court. A jury returned verdicts of guilty on all counts this morning. Sentencing is set for May 28, 2019, however the conviction for Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree is an “A” felony and carries a mandatory life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. Sex Abuse in the 3rd Degree is a “C” felony and carries a sentence of up to 10 years and Incest is a “D” felony and carries sentence of up to 5 years.

The Chickasaw County Attorney’s office was assisted in this case by Assistant Attorney General Denise Timmins of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office Area Prosecutions Division.
