CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was arrested after he was accused of shoplifting, then served a jail sentence.

On March 4, 2019 at about 2:56 PM, officers with the Charles City police department responded to a business in the 900 block of Kelly Street for a report of a shoplifter.  After an investigation, 52-year-old James Cerro of Charles City was arrested for fifth-degree theft and trespassing.

Cero immediately pled guilty to the theft charge and was sentenced to two days in jail.  He awaits a non jury trial on April 17 for the trespassing charge.  He was also ordered to pay $155.00 in court costs.

Cero was also guilty of fifth-degree theft this past November in Charles City.
