KANSAS CITY – Iowa State will be among the hottest teams in the nation heading into the NCAA tournament after a dominating win against Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament Championship game Saturday evening, 78-66.
Iowa State wins its 4th Big 12 Tournament Championship in the past 6 years.
Iowa State (23-11) was more physical than the young Kansas (25-9) squad they faced Saturday.
Lindell Wigginton led Iowa State with 17 points in a reserve role, hitting 8 of 10 free throws. Michael Jacobson had 14 points, Marial Shayok had 15 points and Tyrese Haliburton had 11 points. The Cyclones led by ten points at halftime and built the lead to as much as 17 points in the second half before winding down the clock.
The NCAA Tournament seedings will be announced Sunday evening; Iowa State is guaranteed a bid with its victory in the conference tournament.
