Iowa man found dead after visit to ex-wife’s home

CLIVE, IOWA – An Iowa man was found dead after a visit to his ex-wife’s home.

On Monday, March 4, Clive Police took a missing person report on Michael Shawn Irish, age 55. Mr. Irish’s ex-wife is a Clive resident.

She reported that on Saturday, March 2, Mr. Irish came to her house to take his two children out for a visit. After the visit, prior to leaving, Mr. Irish made some statements and left some items with his ex-wife that made her concerned for his well-being.

The last known contact with Mr. Irish was from text messages that ended just before 11pm on March 2. He did not answer calls or texts on March 3. On March 4, a police report was filed. Police attempted to locate him by pinging his cell phone. His phone was powered off and could not be located. He did not currently have a permanent home address.

Clive Police entered Michael Irish and his vehicle (a black 2016 Ford F-150, Iowa plate GKH932) into the NCIC nationwide law enforcement network as “missing, endangered” in an effort to locate him.

On March 6 at 8:54am, Westcom dispatch received a call from a citizen regarding Michael Irish’s truck being located in a parking area in Walnut Woods Park, 3155 SE Walnut Woods Dr. in West Des Moines. Michael Irish was found, deceased, inside. The scene was investigated by West Des Moines Police, Clive Police, and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office. A preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Irish died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
