MASON CITY – Former Cerro Gordo supervisor Jay Urdahl, charged with harassment and cited by Mason City police after allegedly leaving a scary fake rat and a note from a dead man at an elderly woman’s door, has entered a not guilty plea in the case and awaits trial.

NIT reported back on January 30 that 65-year-old Jay Urdahl of Mason City was cited with a criminal charge of Harassment in the 3rd Degree, a simple misdemeanor, was filed on Jay Urdahl. He was cited and released by police and given a court date on which to make his appearance.

Allegedly, there is video evidence of Urdahl entering Shalom Tower I at 10:17 AM on the morning of January 1, 2019, “in disguise.” He was wearing a ball cap, sunglasses and a coat with a high fur collar. He got on an elevator, went to resident Pat Steinfort’s door and placed a note and a plastic or rubber rat there and left. Minutes later, Ms. Steinfort, who is battling cancer, was leaving to go to her daughter’s home when she opened her front door and was horrified by what she saw.

Pat Steinfort was frightened and scared, she told NIT, after discovering a note from a dead man and a scary fake rat at her door.

“I stepped back 50 feet when I saw it … I threw my clothes basket down … I was confused and scared,” Ms. Steinfort told NIT. “I calmed down and called the police.”

The note was hand-written in big red letters, as she described it. It read:

Pat think about your sins

– John Stone

John Stone is the former Cerro Gordo county Democratic party chairman who passed away Thursday, January 3, 2018. John Stone and Pat Steinfort go way back.  Years ago, in 2012, NIT reported that Ms. Steinfort left the Democratic Party on her own terms and apparently not on the best of terms with the party chairman Stone.  The dust-up was over candidate Chris Watts running for Supervisor with Ms. Stienfort’s support.  The animosity apparently never truly subsided over the years.

Our source says that Jay Urdahl (a long-time Democrat who is a member of the NIACC Alumni Board) claims “John Stone told me to do it.”  Urdahl also served as a Cerro Gordo county supervisor for decades, since the late 1980’s, until Tim Latham defeated him in a 2016 election.  However, Mr. Urdahl confirmed nothing of the sort when reached for comment Wednesday.

“The report speaks for itself,” Mr. Urdahl told NIT in a phone call.

An acquaintance of Mr. Urdahl contacted the NIT newsroom and said, “The  ‘Moral’ of this is: ‘You can take Urdahl out of the North End, but you can’t take the North End outta Urdahl …!!'”

Currently, Jay Urdahl will face a non-jury trial in Cerro Gordo district court on March 21 at 10:30 AM.

Jay has his right to a day in court. How do we know that he went to this old lady’s floor? Maybe he was visiting someone else? How does anyone know that this old lady didn’t make the whole thing up, after she noticed him come into the building? Maybe she has it in for Jay? I’m playing the devil’s advocate. Unless they have video of him coming to her door and placing the shit at her doorway, I think the charges will be dismissed. —Just my opinion.

Urdahl’s they are trash, greedy as eff and only out for them self’s. We use to live down the street from Jays’ folks, nobody liked him or her. The old man, he confess to being a tax cheat. Old man Urdahl, he could not even vote for Jay, on count of his crooked way’s.

He might of been in prison when Jay first got in up to the court house, I think he was still locked up when Jay got in yes.

Jays’ brother Mike, he stiffed so many folks here in Mason he had to leave out, left bad a trial of debt’s from here to Minnesota, we heard.

These are not nice people. Ask them that works with Jay’s wife, she is greedy to, nobody works with her even want to sit with her when they eat there lunch up there.

When Jay first run, he gets Doc Blodgett to give him money gets old Doc’s problem child Toddy Boy do the heavy lifting fooling people to voting for him. He goes into the UPS he says hey I will win, I got the Blodgett’s and there money now, there on my side nobody will beat me.

Shame on the Blodgett’s for helping Jay.

Well he never fooled me, no way no how.

Least Jays’ dad did man up, not try to say he didnt break the law like Jay is doing on this.
