PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Iowa and Rutgers traded three-pointers in the final seconds of their Big Ten Conference matchup, but it was Iowa who got the win with Joe Wieskamp’s buzzer beater, lifting Iowa to a 71-69 road victory.

This was the second buzzer-beater in two games for Iowa, after Jordan Bohannon’s last-second shot beat Northwestern earlier in the week. According to Iowa Basketball, the last time Iowa won back-to-back games at the buzzer was 2002. Luke Recker made last second shots to bounce Wisconsin (58-56) and Indiana (62-60) from the 2002 Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. Freshman Joe Wieskamp made his first 3-pointer of the game from the baseline with 0.2 seconds remaining to lift Iowa to its second last-second victory in seven days. Rutger’s got a final shot but it was amiss.

Rutgers led, 33-32 at halftime.  Iowa’ gritty play throughout the game kept them close and even built a lead that Rutgers dismantled late, forcing the prayer shot that was good from Wieskamp.

Iowa has won four of its last five road games. The Hawkeyes have won nine of their last 11 contests, dating back to Jan. 6.

Iowa has now won 20 games. Fran McCaffery has led Iowa to 20 wins or more in five of the last seven seasons.

Jordan Bohannon made three 3-pointers tonight to move into sole possession of second place on Iowa’s all-time 3-pointers made list. Bohannon netted 15 of his 18 points in the second half.

Iowa improves to 6-1 in games decided by five points or less.

Iowa returns to action on Tuesday, hosting nationally-ranked Maryland in the only regular season game between the two teams. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
