Northern Iowa man caught in stolen pickup truck with half pound of meth and heroin

RURAL ESTHERVILLE, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man was charged as the result of the investigation into a stolen vehicle found parked at a farm south of Estherville recently.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a sheriff’s deputy responding to 1931 400th Avenue on an unrelated matter observed a pickup truck and trailer parked at the farm. Upon investigation it was determined that the pickup truck, (a 2005 Ford) had been reported stolen recently from McCook County, South Dakota. Both the stolen truck and attached trailer which was registered to Dustin Julich of Estherville were impounded and a search warrant was executed on the truck. During the search, a substance believed to be methamphetamine was discovered. Another search warrant was executed on the trailer registered to Julich by the sheriff’s office where approximately ½ pound of methamphetamine, heroin and firearms were located. As a result Dustin Julich age (34) of Estherville was charged by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to deliver (Methamphetamine) a class (B) Felony , Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin) a class (C) felony, 2 counts of Possession of a firearms as a Convicted Felon a class (D) felony, Possession of Stolen Property, 2nd Degree Theft a class (D) Felony, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp a class (D) Felony, 4th degree theft a (Serious Misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia a (Simple Misdemeanor). As a result of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Julich’s arrest on January 23rd 2019 with a cash bond totaling $56,300.

Julich was taken into custody January 24th by the Estherville Police Department after being spotted by officers and was booked into the Emmet County Jail.

Later this same day the Estherville Police Department and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Julich’s residence at 924 1st Avenue North in Estherville where additional evidence was located.

The following morning Julich appeared before Emmet County Magistrate David Forsyth on the charges and his bond was increased to $75,000 cash.

On February 4th Julich was released from jail after $75,000 cash was posted for his release.
