OBIT: Gene A. Haugo, 82 of Lake Mills

Gene A. Haugo, 82 of Lake Mills, IA, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Muse Morris Hospice Unit in Mason City, IA.

Memorial service will be 11 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Sion Lutheran Church, 4527 Finch Avenue, Lake Mills, IA 50450, with Kermit Singelstad officiating.

Gene’s family will greet friends at the church one hour (10-11 AM) prior to the service.

Military rites will be performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 – 2nd Street SE, Mason City, IA 50401 or Sion Lutheran Church, 4527 Finch Avenue, Lake Mills, IA 50450.

Gene A. Haugo was born on July 28, 1936 in Lake Mills, IA, the son of Torjus O. and Marie (Charlson) Haugo. He attended grade school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1954.

On May 31, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to Bev J. Johnson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN.

Gene was a lifelong farmer. He loved his family and each one of them were important to him. He served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid pilot. He loved playing volleyball and golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and watching all sports.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Bev Haugo of Lake Mills; daughters, Deb (Gary) Hanson of Northwood, IA; Kris (Jeff) Nielsen of Cedar Rapids, IA; son, Jon (Pam) Haugo of Lake Mills, IA; grandchildren, Joey (Mindy) Hanson, Levi (Vanessa) Hanson, Dane (Cristin) Hanson, Trevor Heitland, Drew Heitland, Josh (Rachel) Haugo, Kalli (Mike) Fitzgerald, and Cody Haugo; great-grandchildren, Corbyn and Elynn Hanson, Ava, Camden and Jaxon Hanson, Joren and Jens Haugo, Dylan and Blake Fitzgerald; sister, Barbara Best of Garner, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn (Vern) Orth and Wayne (Judy) Johnson; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Jerry) Hanson, brother-in-law, Robert Best, and nephew, Joe Best.
