RURAL WORTH COUNTY – A dirt-covered license plate got a driver stopped by a deputy and then arrested for felony operating while intoxicated.

On December 23, 2018 at approximately 2:50 AM, a deputy with the Worth County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of 450th Street and Highway 65 for an unreadable, dirt covered license plate. The driver, 23-year-old Logan Thome of Osage, performed Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and it was determined that he was under the influence. A passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old Amanda Low of Osage, was cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol, a Simple Misdemeanor.

As a result of the investigation, Thome was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (3rd or subsequent offense), a Class D Felony; No Insurance a Simple Misdemeanor; and Open Container, a Simple Misdemeanor.

Why on earth is no insurance a simple misdemeanor? It’s time they updated the law, requiring mandatory jail time in addition to the fines.

There are far too many people running around without insurance.
