CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was arrested and later fined after a traffic accident in a drive-thru, when he rear-ended another car waiting in line.
The accident took place November 4, 2018, at about 12:58 PM. Charles City police were called to investigate a two-vehicle accident in the 900 block of Gilbert Street. Charles City police say that a white 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by a 25-year-old Elizabeth Majewski was sitting in a drive thru when she was rear ended by a bronze 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by 69-year-old Berl Martin of Charles City. Martin was arrested for driving while suspended – a simple misdemeanor. Martin had driven his vehicle on the public streets from his residence. The truck was not damaged. An estimated $500 in damage was done to Martin’s front bumper.
No one was injured as a result of the accident.
Later in December, Martin was order by a judge to pay $127.50 in fines and court fees after pleading guilty to a charge of operation of motor vehicle with expired license. Back in 2016, Martin was ordered to pay $397.50 in fines and court fees for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
