OBIT: Melvin Krumm

Melvin Krumm, 90, of Northwood, died Monday (December 10, 2018) at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10:30am Saturday (December 15, 2018) at Peace Lutheran Church, 902 2nd Ave North, Northwood with Reverend Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm on Friday (December 14, 2018) at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave S, Northwood and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Melvin Krumm was born on January 2, 1928 to August and Alma (Diedrich) Krumm in Northwood. He attended and graduated from Kensett High School in 1946 before helping his father farm. Melvin married Ruth and to this union two sons were born, Stephen and Kevin.

He ran his own farming operation in the Northwood area for 35 years, until 1984. Melvin worked in maintenance at the Lutheran Retirement Home for 12 years. He was the President of the Senior Center for many years, and was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, even providing the name.

In his free time, Melvin enjoyed watching and feeding the birds outside his home, fishing, woodworking and brightening the retirement home with fresh flowers. He also was an avid volunteer in the community. Melvin was a people person; everyone he met was his friend. He was a very giving, generous person.

Those left to cherish his memory are his very special friend, Karen Lippstock, Northwood; his sons, Stephen (Cecilia) Krumm, Owatonna, MN, and Kevin (Lisa) Krumm, Lawrence, KS; his grandson, Michael Krumm, Wichita, KS; his favorite dog, Oscar; niece, Karen Schultz and her husband, Bob Anderson; great niece, Nicole (Scott) Gawer and their daughter Kate; great nephew, Justin Anderson; great niece, Kathy (Craig) Huberty and her children, Kaylanna (Andy) Heyn, Lute and Chance; sister-in-law, Marge Schultz; as well as many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Krumm and his parents, August and Alma (Diedrich) Krumm.
