Clear Lake house a total loss after Sunday morning fire

CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake house burned Sunday in Clear Lake, but no one was hurt in the blaze.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 6201 South Shore Drive for a reported structure fire, this morning Sunday, Oct 14, 2018 at approximately 3:54 AM. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 3 Engine Companies, 1 Rescue Company, 1 Squad Company, 1 Command Vehicle and 18 Firefighters. Ventura Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aide for the need of extra man power and water, they responded with 2 Engine Companies and 7 Firefighters. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department was the first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire.

A single story unoccupied house that was fully involved with fire. Once on scene, CLFD made the determination that the house was a total loss and made an exterior attack only. The next couple of hours were spent extinguishing the fire and performing overhaul, making sure all of the hot spots were out.

No one was injured.

The fire remains under investigation by the Clear Lake Fire Department. Estimated damage is over $100,000. Clear Lake Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Ventura Fire Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and Alliant Energy.

The property is owned by Alta Mae Gilbert, records show.
