His guys delivered the birthday gift.
The NIACC men’s golf team shot a 302 to to win the on the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course. Knox College Purple was second with a 306 and host Iowa Wesleyan was third with a 311.
“This was a really good win for the guys (Tuesday),” Frenz said. “It took all five guys to push each other to the victory. They all fed off each other.”
It was the first team title for the NIACC men since the Trojans claimed the 2016 Southwest Tech CC Fall Invitational.
NIACC freshman Austin Eckenrod shared meet medalist honors with Knox Purple’s Josh Schumacher with a pair of 73s.
“Austin Eckenrod was excellent off the tee,” Frenz said. “He put himself in position to score on almost every hole and made some putts to keep his round alive.”
Ben Boerjan shot a 75, Zach Martin shot a 76, Jackson Hamlin shot a 78 and Matthew Heinemann shot an 81.
Also for the Trojans, John Patterson shot an 87.
“Ben Boerjan bounced back nice from a tough tournament last weekend and Zach and Jackson played solid. Matthew Heinemann is close to breaking through so I really like where we’re at this fall.”
The 302 is the second lowest score of the fall for the NIACC men, who shot a fall best 295 at the Grand View September Shootout at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
NIACC resumes its fall schedule on Oct. 17 at the Grand View October Shootout at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
