Northern Iowa man crashes car into bean field, accused of drunk driving

PALO ALTO COUNTY, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man crashed his car into a bean field and is now accused of drunk driving.

On Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 7:10 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident that occurred in the 4200 block of Brushy Bayou Rd. Upon investigation, it was determined that 41-year-old Donald Joyce of Emmetsburg, Ia was driving his 2015 Ford Taurus Eastbound in the 4100 Block of 420th Street when he failed to stop at the stop sign located at the intersection of 420th Street and 460th Avenue, subsequently losing control in the 4100 block of Brushy Bayou Rd and coming to rest in a bean field on the south side of the road. Estimated damages to the Joyce vehicle are $7,000. Joyce was uninjured during the accident.

During the investigation into the accident, it was determined that Joyce was under the influence of alcohol and subsequently placed under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Failure to Obey a Stop Sign. Donald Joyce was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Emmetsburg Fire Department and Palo Alto County Ambulance Service.
