Governor Kim Reynolds visits Mason City High School football game, watches Mohawks lose 63-7; new goalposts are shiny

MASON CITY – Governor Kim Reynolds visited a Mason City High School football game Friday night to watch the Mohawks lose 63-7 to Waukee High School.

Mason City Schools Superintendent Dave Versteeg said he was “happy to have hosted Governor Kim Reynolds for some Friday night football.” The game quickly descended into a lopsided, almost sad affair as the hometown team’s opponent, Waukee High School, raced to a 35-0 first quarter lead and then a 63-0 halftime lead.

As the pummeling by the Warriors upon the Mohawks commenced on the field, Superintendent Versteeg said he and the Governor “discussed important issues such as concessions stand food, STEM & future Ready Iowa.”

Meanwhile, in garbage time, Mason City managed a touchdown as the Governor looked on. One long-time Mohawk fan said, “At least our Mohawks got to use one of those shiny new goalposts the school district installed this month. It’s a real shame the opponents got to kick 9 times straight through them. I have no idea how much the yellow uprights cost, but at least I know my tax dollars are being spent on something extremely worthwhile (eyes roll as walks away).”

The Mason City High athletic department acknowledged on September 17 that the high school football field already “had uprights” (goalposts), but that “new goal posts (were) being put up today.” The cost to taxpayers to buy and install the goalposts wasn’t immediately known, nor was the reason for the project.

This is the best story I have ever read on here. Ex good comments and outstanding side bars.

Will we see the shiny new goal posts. I think we need to paint them Red being the home team is always in the hole.

Getting close to losing again. What will be the score this time 80-0.But hey a least every other week we can see shiny new goal posts.

I think they should just forfeit the rest of the season I see they lost again 40 something to nothing they don’t just lose they get blowed out. A forfeit score of 2-0 would look so much better.

Only to you. The rest of us appreciate effort.

It was a tie
Waukee won the 1st half
Mason City won the 2nd
see, tie game I guess

How can you call a loss of 63-7 a tie go back to school and learn your numbers maybe you are a grad of the losing team go figure

Hey! Who’s the city administrator in Waukee? Maybe that’s the key to their football success.

Mason City always has a rotten football team why would the gov want to see a butch of losers.

She figured you would be there and you are the biggest loser in town.

Sorry I can honestly say I don’t set foot in rotten Mason City had enough of it when I worked in it.

Send her your address.

who is that standing with her in the picture

Pretty Sure I heard donations and Boosters took care of the goal posts. .

Please VOTE CONSERVATIVES !!!!! We can’t go backwards !!

A vote for a democrat is a vote for SOCIALISM !!!

This state is near dead last in economic development and a big reason why is the religious based law this lady allowed to b put on the books. I’ll be voting Hubble. You should too, if you care about improving this state.

Reynolds is toast, she will not be Governor much longer.
She just rode Branstad’s coattails and nothing more than a corporate puppet.
She is a way out of her league and just Republican fluff.
Get a clue “Con” man.

It’s really going to be fun watching you crawl back into your hole again after she wins. Just like the last time.

If you can’t field a team………. don’t !!!!

You are right yr after yr they are a joke. Losing by that score with the Governor there is just a sad picture of a sad city.

Sad!
