NIACC soccer teams split with Northeast CC

MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s soccer team topped Northeast CC 4-1 Wednesday in an ICCAC contest on the NIACC campus.

NIACC jumped out to a 2-1 lead at the half and added two insurance goals in the second 45 minutes.

NIACC received first-half goals from Lewis Saunders and Alex Scarano. The Trojans’ second-half goals came from Harry Holland and Aleksander Trujic.

Matthew Janke picked up the win in goal for the Trojans.

The Trojans (2-3-1, 1-0-1) return to action Friday at home against Riverland CC in a nonconference match, which is slated to start at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the NIACC women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Northeast CC Wednesday afternoon in an ICCAC contest.

Northeast CC led 2-0 at the half and held on for the two-goal victory. Northeast received goals from Blair Buckingham at the 36:52 mark of the first half and Mary Perez at the 26:30 mark of the first half.

The NIACC women (3-3 overall, 1-1 in the ICCAC) return to action Sept. 19 at the Grand View University Junior Varsity in a nonconference contest.
