NIACC women top Hawkeye CC, men battle to 1-1 draw

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s soccer team opened the ICCAC season with a 1-0 victory over Hawkeye CC on the NIACC campus.

Sophomore Jessica Altman scored the Lady Trojans’ lone goal at the 27 minute mark of the second half on an assist from sophomore Kirrilly Hughes.

NIACC (3-2 overall, 1-0 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against Northeast CC in an ICCAC match. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.

The NIACC men’s soccer team battled Hawkeye CC to a 1-1 double overtime draw in an ICCAC contest at the NIACC pitch Saturday afternoon.

The teams squared off for 90 minutes of regulation with a 1-1 score and they played two 10 minute overtimes and still couldn’t decide a winner.

Hawkeye CC scored on a goal from Fadel Kabore with 43:03 remaining in the first half. NIACC tied the contest at 1-1 on an own goal with 17:35 to play in the first half.

NIACC (1-3-1 overall, 0-0-1 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against Northeast CC in an ICCAC match. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m.
