Man arrested for vandalizing Congressman Rod Blum’s office

DUBUQUE, IOWA – Police used video surveillance footage to identify and later capture a suspect who threw paint onto Congressman Rod Blum’s office.

On August 22, 2018 at approximately 5:57 AM, Officers responded to 1050 Main Street, the office of U.S Representative Rod Blum, for a report of vandalism to the building. Officers reviewed traffic camera footage and observed a subject later identified as 32-year-old Cory Wayne Straub, no permanent address, walking in the area with a paint can. Straub was observed throwing white paint onto the front of the building.

At approximately 6:51 PM Officers located Straub at Jackson Park, 1500 Main St. Straub had paint on his jeans and made admissions to the incident. Straub was placed under arrest for Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree. Straub was also found to be in possession of marijuana and was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Criminal Mischief 3rd is a Aggravated Misdemeanor with a maximum penalty not to exceed two years in jail.
