MASON CITY – A Mason City woman has pled guilty to stealing over $30,000 from her former employer and is on probation for her crime.
The Mason City Police Department charged 55-year-old Melissa Joy Gott of Mason City with first-degree theft in connection with an investigation into the embezzlement of over $30,000 from the Yes Way convenience store at 1303 4th Street S.W. where she was the former manager.
After Gott entered a not-guilty plea, a deal was struck and Gott pled guilty to first-degree theft. She was given a suspended 10-year prison sentence, a suspended $1,000 fine, and probation. She must pay $32,716.66 in restitution and court costs.

Sign me up if that’s all that happens. What kind of message does that send to others. The law still reflects that these type of crimes that are committed by women tend to get off easy. It’s been happening pretty regularly over the past four years as women are given access to the responsibilities of managing money. You go girl. lol
