MASON CITY – Changes in traffic patterns for the reconstruction project on Iowa 122 in downtown Mason City will begin this Friday, August 10, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.
Fifth Street Southwest is currently closed and all Iowa 122 traffic is using Sixth Street Southwest in a head-to-head traffic pattern. Traffic is currently able to use South Jefferson Avenue, Federal Avenue (U.S. 65), and South Connecticut Avenue to cross Southeast Fifth Street.
Starting on Friday, South Jefferson Avenue will be closed and South President Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue will be opened at 5th Street Southwest. Beginning Monday, Aug. 13, South Federal Avenue (U.S. 65) at Fifth Street Southwest will be closed. Traffic for Federal Avenue will be detoured west on 19th Street Southwest, north on South Monroe Avenue, east on Fourth Street Southwest, then back on Federal (U.S. 65).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
Inconvienent yes…… long term a wise investment. Get over it, take a different route.
What a cluster-F.
With the new patterns, I wonder how you would get to YesWay Central?
