Former Mason City schools employee who was overpaid thousands of dollars is now suing district for gender bias

MASON CITY – A former Mason City schools employee who was overpaid by thousands of dollars is now suing district for some kind of gender bias after a man was hired for a job she claims to have wanted.

In a statement released today, the Mason City School District alerted they they have been made aware of a lawsuit filed by former District employee Jodie Anderson where she is pursuing employment claims against the District. Based on the District’s understanding of the contents of the lawsuit, it strongly denies Ms. Anderson’s allegations and would like to provide the following factual clarifications:

Ms. Anderson received over $7,500 in excess compensation during her employment not approved by the School Board while working under former superintendent Dr. Anita Micich – a fact that was confirmed by a reaudit performed by the State Auditor’s Office.

• Ms. Anderson voluntarily resigned from her employment with the District, despite multiple attempts to convince her to stay with the District after her notice of resignation. Following her resignation and well before her replacement was hired, Ms. Anderson offered and contracted with the District, on her terms, to serve as a human resources consultant.

• Ms. Anderson’s replacement, Tom Drzycimski, served as the chief administrative officer for Cerro Gordo County for more than 20 years where he was responsible for managing personnel and human resources matters. Mr. Drzycimski had significantly more public sector human resources experience than Ms. Anderson, who had no public sector human resources experience prior to her employment with the District.

The District is fully confident in its position and that its actions will be vindicated by a court of law.

What’s up with no comments from our teacher and ex-teacher duo. You can’t get them to shut up on politics but when it’s something they SHOULD know something about they’re both quiet as a mouse, Could it be they both think if you take money from the school district that’s a good thing?

You are a moron

That’s your reply? And you’re calling Anonymous a moron?

have to be a change of venue, she wont be able to find 12 people who would be on her side

See the circa August 2017 NIT articles relating to the audit and Ms. Anderson.

This article appears to be clear, concise and to the point. So, there no need for a judge to help and figuring out that this is a case of ethics and wasted tax dollars on lawsuit. Sometimes using anonymity can be like being a superhero fighting injustice. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman all do it. Mason City has enough issues on it’s plate and now this. Please spare me the weak logic. It’s foolish on the part of anyone pursing such nonsense. She’s wrong in doing it. Period.

I find it interesting that these highly judgmental and offensive commentaries come from anonymous posters. It’s pretty easy to personally bash someone when you can hide behind the cloak of anonymity, I suppose. I have known Jodie for over 20 years, both professionally and personally. She is a respected leader, has the highest integrity and work ethic, and has been and continues to be a positive force in our community and other area communities. She is driven by fairness and equality, not greed. To state that she was overpaid makes a mockery of the value that Jodie provided for the school district (and for other companies that were so lucky to have her on their team). Each and every one of us could find ourselves in a situation where we must stand up for something we believe in, and there is no reason to be personally attacked for doing so. Please…keep your negative comments and name-calling to yourself and let the courts do the judging.

Jodie violated the Iowa Code by taking money that was not passed through correct process of School board approval and the Iowa State Auditor office founded that claim and they can press criminal charges when the 2nd audit is completed (Read the Globe previous articles they reported their was a 2nd audit coming as the state auditors office stated they were conducting a 2nd audit) Those are facts and Jodie was founded to be over paid not by the board but by the Iowa State Auditor office. I don’t want to pay for her to get rich as she has stolen from me already as a tax payer on a bogus charge cause she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar! GO MASONCITY SCHOOL BOARD!

I have never heard of an HR person writing their own checks so seriously think about your comments. Have you heard of Micich and Hal Minear having to repay what they stole? No, I see her as the fall girl. Thicker than thieves are the lot. The truth is gonna come out. My advice to this woman is to pull the case out of Cerro Gordo so she can get a fair trial.

Agreed. If my supervisor tells me I’m getting a raise, I don’t think to ask “has this been properly approved?” I say “thanks” and look forward to the new check.

Exactly! No whom should have to repay any amount that was not authorized by the school board is Anita Micich and Hal Minear. Guess what happens if you stick up for what is right. You were dismissed and never even had a chance to go before the board. The board knew the dirty crap going on behind the scenes. They just chose to look the other way until it became so glaring, they had no choice but to respond. Micich wasn’t following any rules or guidelines set forth. And, the school union is just a joke.

In Public all raises go through the board. And I hear the DCI has interviewed several people the last few months regarding what the previous board and previous administration did at Mason City with our money. I think charges are coming for all! I sure hope so!

Is this why Jon declined the fire chief job???

It’s all about Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee……pay up. What a klutz!

A shyster lawyer must have got to her. She cheated on her wages, was found out, resigned and has no case.

everyone at MCHS is way overpaid

Mason City Alternative School is taking over. That’s where the future is. They make school easier to complete in less time.

And this year they had 51 proud graduates who might have otherwise been failures. Best graduation I have ever atteneded. That staff has it together!!’’’

why don’t you go get a job there you ignoramus

All teachers are over paid. Plus MC spends too much on a losing FB team. Also stupid shiny new goal posts.

The Globe failed to mention she was found accepting too much money as an overpaid employee.

Read it again numb-nuts.

This is quite perplexing. A person resigns, then is contracted with as a consultant, (not an employee), and then replaced by a permanent employee.

Where is the case? Now if she had been an employee at the time Mr. Drzycimski was hired, perhaps she has a claim. But as it stands, this sounds like a contract case, not an employment case.

Assuming of course, we have all the facts.

Fascinatating. The Auditor office named Jodie Anderson as taking money not alloted to her by Iowa Law but now she can sue and people applaud it. Well the Globe followers are. She took money and now she can take more.

I need a job in HR. Sounds like the pay is great and the work is minimal. Win-win.

So she ripped us off, by us, I mean the tax payer, by taking money that was not hers to take and now she is suing! Guess what the tax payer will pay again, to pay a thief! Great Anita taught her well.

Explains why your kids have to provide a box of Kleenex for everybody else and what ever items the school can’t afford. In my line of work, we are lucky to get a 2 % raise…. oh that’s right… this year we get nothing. But I’ll have to buy Kleenex for everybody. Oh yeah, I don’t get summers off, snow days, and extra holiday days. Oh yeah, I forget those in education are underpaid.

She knows easy money when she sees it.

Sounds like a lawyer got to her.
