MASON CITY – A Britt man who was arrested after police in that small Hancock county town accused him of sexual abuse of children has entered into a plea deal in the case.

Britt police charged 35-year-old Damien Kyhl with two counts of felony second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of felony third-degree sexual abuse. Records show the crimes were allegedly committed against two minors as far back as 2011.

Kyhl was charged on January 17 and brought to the Cerro Gordo county jail. The next day, he posted bond and was released. He could face decades behind bars if found guilty.

Days ago, Kyhl and his attorney entered an Alford Plea in the case, which is a guilty plea but the defendant doesn’t give details to the court and avoids a trial. Instead, he’ll be in court August 13, when a sentencing date will likely be announced.
