FORT DODGE – Police are searching for a group of young African-American males after a house was shot at and a person was taken to a hospital.
On Thursday, July 19, at approximately 12:25 PM, the Webster County Communications Center received a call in regard to shots fired. The caller indicated that shots were being fired at the residence of 1502 4th Ave South. Information indicated that a group of individuals had dispersed from the area while officers were responding.
While officers were arriving in the area, a report came in that some in the group may have gone into Yes Way located at 1601 5th Ave South. Officers entered the store and did not locate anyone fitting the description inside.
Officers responded to 1502 4th Ave South and discovered evidence that the residence had been struck by gunfire. While speaking with a resident, a male arrived in the area indicating he had been struck in the leg by a bullet while sitting on the front porch of the residence. The 49 year old male was transported to Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported in the incident. Witnesses described the group as approximately 4- 6 black male juveniles, appearing to be in their mid to late teens.
The Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to follow up on information regarding this incident. This is nothing new in Fort Dodge. It’s been going on for decades. There’s an alley in the downtown called Dead Man’s Alley because 11 people have been killed there alone, maybe more now.

Young criminal gangs have always been referred to as acting like animals among the civil population. Poorly educated they come by thievery naturally as they act out impulsively. Why is it that so many are locked up. It’s because they are leading the charge of a free for all mentality on a nation wide crime wave. Violent times we live in with public cameras everywhere. People are on edge with itchy trigger fingers. It’s like the wild west of lore with so many crazies doing so many despicable acts. Time for another sandwich.
