Two-vehicle accident Friday in rural Mason City hurts Northwood residents

RURAL MASON CITY – A two-vehicle accident Friday in rural Mason City hurt two Northwood residents.

The accident took place on July 6, 2018 at about 3:37 PM. Cerro Gordo County Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 300th St. and Orchid Ave. for a 2-vehicle accident with injuries. The first vehicle was driven by Craig Mericle, age 65, from Nora Springs, IA and was traveling southbound on Hwy 65. The second vehicle was driven by Janet Wilder, age 83, and passenger Robert Wilder, age 91, both from Northwood, IA and was traveling eastbound on 300th St. stopped at the stop sign. Wilder pulled out onto the roadway into the path of Mericle and the two cars collided, putting both vehicles into the ditch. Both driver and passenger of the second vehicle was taken to North Iowa Mercy ER with possible injuries by Mason City Fire. Mericle was uninjured in the accident.

All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

The investigation continues.

Lots of young people shouldn’t be driving either. The text or talk on their phones while driving. Drive without a license or insurance and just get a slap on the wrist when caught. Then they don’t pat their fines but keep right on driving illegally.
