Iowa man enters guilty plea after allegedly causing daughter’s death and then hit by train

AMES – An Iowa man has entered a guilty plea in a case after police say he murdered his baby daughter by suffocation and then was hit by a train.

A first-degree murder charge has been brought against 29-year-old Calvin Curtis White of Nevada. Earlier this year, his daughter died allegedly after he admitted to using a pillow to suffocate her. Soon thereafter, on the afternoon of January 29, he was struck by a Union Pacific train near Nevada, which is east of Ames. White was taken to the hospital and when he was released, police were waiting to arrest him.

The Story county attorneys office says that on Friday, June 15, White entered a guilty plea to Child Endangerment Resulting in Death. This crime carries a mandatory 50 year prison term. Sentencing has been set for July 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM.

“Thanks to Nevada Iowa Police Department and DCI for their excellent police work on this case,” the attorney’s office noted.
