WATERLOO – A severe beating was inflicted upon an apartment complex maintenance worker in Waterloo after an irate boyfriend invaded his girlfriend’s apartment and beat the man with a bicycle.
On Wednesday, June 13, 2018 Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue responded to a report of an assault in progress in the area of the 1200 block of West Mullan Avenue. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found the victim, 72-year-old Johannes Rodenburgh of Waterloo suffering from injuries to his head and neck. Mr. Rodenburgh was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
A police investigation into this matter led to the arrest of 27-year-old Martavis T. Wise of Waterloo for Willful Injury, causing serious injury.
Wise was taken to the Black Hawk County jail where he is being held on $100,000 cash bond.
Rodenburgh remains at Covenant Medical Center, reportedly with a broken neck. The Waterloo Courier says the apartment maintenance worker was severely beaten by Wise and was even pummeled with a child’s bicycle during the incident.
