MASON CITY – A treasured figure’s gravesite in Mason City will be restored, and a dedication ceremony is planned this weekend, which the public is invited to attend.
A dedication of the restoration of the Willson family monument and enhancements to the family‘s cemetery lot will be held on Saturday, June 16th at 3:00 pm. The public is invited to attend this event at the gravesite of Meredith Willson in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Municipal Cemetery. Please enter at the Monroe Avenue entrance, the gravesite is directly to the east.
The original stoneware birdbath and sundial that sat on the ends of the family monument were removed over 15 years ago and are being replaced with granite replicas. Enhancements to the family lot include a paver pathway and sitting area with a matching granite bench. A plaque recognizing Meredith Willson is also being installed. This project was made possible through the generosity of the Iowa Questers, the Mason City Chautauqua Circuit Questers and the Music Man Foundation of Los Angeles.
