MASON CITY – For the eighth straight season, the NIACC baseball team has landed at least one player on the all-NJCAA Region XI first-team.
NIACC, which was the No. 2 seed for last week’s regional tournament, placed three players on the first team, one on the second team and four players earned honorable mention recognition.
NIACC players earning first-team honors were sophomores Brandon Williamson (pitcher) and Joey Werner (outfield) and freshman Kamrin Arons (infield).
Williamson was 8-4 with 104 strikeouts, 34 walks and a 3.14 earned run average in 66 innings pitched.
Werner hit .403 (71 hits) with 12 doubles, eight home runs and five triples. He also had 47 RBIs with 45 walks and 24 stolen bases.
Arons hit .368 (57 hits) with six doubles, nine home runs and 51 RBIs.
NIACC’s sophomore right-hander Spencer Chirpich was a second-team all-region pick. Chirpich was 6-2 with 67 strikeouts, 15 walks and a 3.50 ERA in 61 2/3 innings pitched.
The Trojans’ Ben Komonosky (catcher), Tom Skoro (pitcher), Shane Kelleher (infield) and Nate VanKan (outfield) were honorable mention picks.
Komonosky, a sophomore, hit .307 (55 hits) witwh 16 doubles, eight home runs and 50 RBIs.
Skoro, a freshman, was 8-2 with 86 strikeouts and 28 walks and a 3.23 ERA in 55 2/3 innings pitched.
Kelleher, a freshman, hit .325 (40 hits) with 14 doubles, six home runs and 35 RBIs.
VanKan, a sophomore, hit .351 (40 hits) with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.
