MASON CITY — A Charles City man has been found guilty in a case in which he was accused of molesting a teen boy.

Doug Lindaman, age 62 of Charles City, was found guilty Wednesday by a jury in Cerro Gordo county district court of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. Lindaman escaped a more-serious charge of third-degree sexual abuse.   He now awaits sentencing on May 11.

A Floyd county jury returned a guilty verdict for sex abuse in April of 2016 against Lindaman; he was running for school board for the second time when he was arrested. The jury had worked for only a few hours before bringing back the verdict. His crime against a 17-year-old male farm hand took place in spring of 2011. He was sent to prison for up to 10 years.  However, Lindaman – a convicted sex offender due to felony sex crimes he committed in the 1980’s – was later granted a new trial by the Iowa Supreme Court. That trial was moved to Franklin county due to pre-trial publicity. Then, Lindaman’s previous criminal history was brought up in court, leading to a mis-trial. His latest trial was again moved out of Floyd county due to pre-trial publicity.

Lindaman also faces a charge of tampering with a witness, records show. He’ll be arraigned on April 24.
