Rural Iowa bank robbed Tuesday morning

MAXWEWLL, IOWA – A bank was robbed in rural Iowa Tuesday morning, and the culprits remain at large.

On April 10 at approximately 10:23 AM, the Story County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call and an automated alarm from the Maxwell State Bank located at 122 Main Street in Maxwell, Iowa. The employees at the bank indicated that two black males armed with handguns entered the bank, ordered the employees on the floor, and subsequently left with an undetermined amount of money. The employees indicated the suspects had their faces covered in an apparent attempt to disguise their appearance.

There were no patrons inside of the bank at the time of the robbery and nobody was physically injured.

Story County Deputies located a vehicle believed to be involved in the robbery in the southwest corner of the City of Maxwell. The vehicle was unattended and was impounded for processing.

The Story County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the FBI on the investigation. Anyone with information on the bank robbery is encouraged to contact the Story County Sheriff’s Office at 515-382-6566 or Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 515-223-1400.

The Story County Sheriff’s Office thanked the FBI, the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DCI, Huxley Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Police Department for their assistance in the initial response.

I did not know Maxwell was a suburb of Chitcago – Rumor 2 – The car was parked at the Greyhound bus stop so they presume the culprits have returned home for a brief vacation – in style of course.
