Two young men arrested and large amount of stolen property recovered in Oelwein after thefts and burglaries

OELWEIN, IOWA – Two young men have been arrested and a large amount of stolen property recovered in the Northern Iowa town of Oelwein after a string of thefts and burglaries.

The Oelwein Police Department said today that they made arrests in connection to a recent string of motor vehicle thefts and burglaries. In addition to the various incidents that occured in Oelwein, the department also was able to connect the individuals to two motor vehicle thefts that occurred in Hazleton, Iowa.

On April 8, the Oelwein Police Department arrested 18-year-old Jordan Michael Cornwell of Oelwein and a 15-year-old male, also of Oelwein. As a result of the investigation, officers were able to recover a large amount of stolen property.

Cornwell has been charged with two counts of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent (aggravated misdemeanor) and four counts of third degree burglary (Class D Felony), further charges are pending. Cornwell is in custody pending an initial appearance.

The 15-year-old juvenile is being charged with multiple counts of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, along with multiple counts of third degree burglary. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents pending further court action.

The Oelwein Police Department is asking for patience from the public as they continue to process and return the recovered stolen property.
