ANAMOSA, IOWA – A correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary in Anamosa, IA at approximately 6:42 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.
The correctional officer was working with a team of officers when an inmate struck the correctional officer in the face using his head, and then bit his forearm. The inmate was restrained moments later.
The correctional officer was initially assessed by facility medical personnel, returned to duty, and completed his shift. However, after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, he was taken to the emergency room at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
This incident remains under investigation.
