Senator Ragan blames “fiscal mismanagement” on delay of state tax returns

Senator Amanda Ragan

MASON CITY – Senator Amanda Ragan today said that “fiscal mismanagement” is the likely cause of another delay in state tax returns being doled out.

Iowans want answers about why they’ve waited for weeks for their refunds for the second year in a row, Senator Amanda Ragan said today in a bulletin. Data shows the state has issued even fewer refunds this year than it had at the same point last year, she says, and Iowans are frustrated by how long it’s taking to get their state tax refunds.

“It was unacceptable last year, and it appears to be worse this year,” Ragan says.

According to data, for 2018, just over $200 million was returned to taxpayers by March 8. That’s a big dip from two years ago, when more than $350 million in refunds were made by March 8.

Why must Iowans wait longer and longer to get their tax refunds?

Ragan says the answers likely lie in “fiscal mismanagement” connected to lack of funds in 2017, when “the Branstad-Reynolds Administration actually didn’t have the money to pay Iowans’ refunds on time.”

“This year, we don’t know the exact cause for the delays,” Ragan explains. But, “it could be lack of staff, or it could be lack of funds. Whether it is bad management or the state budget mess, Iowans shouldn’t have to wait to get their money back. The fact that tax refunds aren’t being paid on time is yet another sign of fiscal mismanagement.”

In December, the Iowa Department of Revenue posted a warning on its website that read, “Due to the dramatic increase in tax refund fraud, IDR has strengthened its fraud detection tools. Receiving your tax refund now takes longer than it did in previous years.”

Hurry and get your tax return – Hurry to run down to the courthouse to pay your property taxes so they can give it back to the government schools – hell next year just give it to the schools – why waste my time.

If this is the second year in a row its happened, then why didn’t you do something about it, Ms Ragan?

“why didn’t you do something about it, Ms Ragan?”

Called Kim Reynolds, Linda Upmeyer & other Republicans

People should never get a tax return if they haven’t paid in.

Why do single or non working parents get so much back in taxes when they haven’t even paid in, or if they have its not anything close to what they get back? I know roughly three people who received 8k-25k in tax returns based on how many kids they have. Instead of spending the money on the children, they go buy video games, and classic muscle cars they have to sell three months down the road because they can’t afford it anymore. How can this even be sustainable?

These aren’t refunds. It’s your money

I know several people who got theirs back in three weeks.

The way Mandy spends my money should should know for certain whether or not it’s “fiscal mismanagement”. The return refunds are only being delayed. When Mandy spends my money it’s gone forever.

When you spend your money it’s gone forever. Especially all the money you spend on booze.
