MUSCATINE – The Class 4A basketball scoring record held by former Mason City great Jeff Horner has been broken.

Mason City’s Jeff Horner held the top mark in Class 4A basketball scoring total since 2002, according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association, with 2,194 points in his career.

Tuesday night, a Muscatine basketball player, Joe Wieskamp, passed Horner. Wieskamp averages nearly 35 points per game for the Muskies and is committed to following Horner’s footsteps and play for the Iowa Hawkeyes next year.

Horner congratulated Wieskamp late Tuesday night after his performance, saying via Twitter, “Congrats … This is only the start of many great things to come. Enjoy the process along the way and always remember what got you to where you are!”

Wieskamp responded, “Thank you!! It’s been fun chasing you! Lots of work left to do!”

Horner was known for his long 3-point bombs for Mason City and for guiding the Hawkeyes to many victories in his 4 years in Iowa City.

He is a brat

Is this the same horner who said: “I am ashamed to have graduated from Mason City High School”. I think he said this because they didn’t hire his daddy for basketball coach.
