Inmate found dead in Waterloo work release bed

WATERLOO – An Iowa man was found dead in his bed at a Waterloo residential facility, prompting an investigation.

Chad William Polley, age 44, was discovered deceased in his work release bed due to undermined causes at 8:40 AM on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility.

Upon finding the work release inmate unresponsive, staff from the facility called 911 and local police and fire personnel arrived within minutes. As part of standard procedure, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted and arrived a short time later, and has since taken over the investigation of the death. The inmate’s body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny.

Polley had been serving his sentence in the work release facility for the crime of Sex Offender- Registration Violation, 2nd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony, from Black Hawk County. His most recent sentence began on August 17th, 2016.
