CEDAR RAPIDS – An Illinois man is behind bars after an Iowa woman was recently shot in the abdomen.
On Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 7:24 PM, police officers responded to report of several shots fired in the 1600 block of Bever Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids. Officers arrived on scene and found a 41-year-old female that had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim remains hospitalized and the gunshot wound doesn’t appear to be life-threatening.
Investigators have identified Leon Tyrone Barnes, age 26 of Illinois, as a suspect in the shooting.
The suspect has been in custody in Illinois on other charges and was extradited to the Linn County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Barnes is being charged with Attempted Murder, Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury, Going Armed with Intent, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
