Iowa man faces murder charge after following woman home from bar

DUBUQUE, IOWA – An Iowa man faces a first-degree murder charge after following a woman home from bar and allegedly becoming violent.

On December 3rd, 2017, at approximately 11:20 PM, Dubuque Police responded to 981 High Bluff Street on the report of a deceased female inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers located the body of an adult female and determined the death was suspicious in nature. The decedent was ultimately identified as Beverly A. Puccio, 42, of the address above. Investigators determined at some point Saturday night (December 2) she encountered Michael E. Piantieri, 36, of 694 West 11th Street, at the Walnut Tap (909 Walnut Street). The two later left the bar and went back to Puccio’s residence, where it appears they had a physical altercation that resulted in injuries believed to have caused her death.

The official cause and method of death is yet to be determined by the State Medical Examiner.

Soon thereafter, after investigators developed Piantieri as the suspect, he was located and brought to the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed. He was then charged with 1st Degree Murder, a Class A Felony, punishable by life in prison. He is being held in the Dubuque County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance.

PIANTIERI, MICHAEL ELTON
