OBIT: Leonard “Ray” Jarrett, 81, of Charles City

Leonard “Ray” Jarrett, 81, of Charles City, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A graveside service for Ray Jarrett will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City. Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017.

Leonard Ray Jarrett, the son of Leonard and Edith (Coble) Jarrett, was born July 2, 1936 in Cherokee County, Kansas. Ray enlisted into the United States Army and proudly served his country for two years. He was united in marriage to Avis Arndt on July 9, 1982 at the Faith Bible Chapel in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City.

Ray worked as a mail truck driver for the United States Postal Service for about six years and at Diversified Fasteners in Charles City until his retirement. Once retired, and even a little before, Ray did carpentry work which he loved. He had been a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Cedar Valley Engine Club. Ray enjoyed bowling, fishing and collecting tractors.

Living family members include his wife of 35 years, Avis of Charles City; step-daughter, Sherry McKee of North Liberty; two brothers: Lloyd (Connie) Jarrett and LeRoy (Mary) Jarrett all of Clinton; brother-in-law, Ray Cossairt of Dixon, Illinois; two children from a previous marriage; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Jarrett; sister, Edith “Irene” Cossairt; and two children from a previous marriage.
